BONE MARROW MSCs SELECTIVE ASPIRATION

Optimising bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) aspiration is pivotal in regenerative medicine. This procedure finds utility in treating soft tissue pathologies (e.g. osteoarthritis, chondropathies, tendinopathies) and bone grafting surgeries aimed at repairing damaged bones, whether due to injury, disease, or congenital conditions.

MARROW-STEM™ is a disposable device designed for the selective aspiration of mesenchymal cells from bone marrow.

Thanks to its innovative micrometric lateral aspiration system and closed distal tip, it maximizes cellular yield while minimizing peripheral blood contamination.

The procedure is efficient—typically completed in about 20 minutes—requires no centrifugation, and allows for multiple aspirations from a single percutaneous access point.

It can be performed with low morbidity at various harvesting sites, including the anterior or posterior iliac crest, proximal tibia, distal femur, or vertebral body.

surgical procedure

1.

INITIAL INSERTION

Insert and advance the MARROW-STEM™ just past the cortical bone while keeping the stylet in place to maintain rigidity and control.

2.

FIRST ASPIRATION

Remove the stylet, attach a VacLok syringe, and aspirate the first 1 ml of bone marrow from the initial position.

3.

ADVANCE TO FINAL DEPTH

Reinsert the stylet and advance the device to the deepest desired aspiration point, guided by anatomical targets or surgical plan.

4.

SECOND ASPIRATION

Adjust the gear to rest against the skin for depth tracking. Remove the stylet again, reattach the VacLok syringe, and aspirate a second 1 ml of bone marrow.

5.

SEQUENTIAL ASPIRATION

Retract the MARROW-STEM™ by rotating the handle 360° counterclockwise twice, moving approximately 1 cm upward. At each new position, aspirate 1 ml of bone marrow. Repeat this process for each additional aspiration point, using the gear’s residual excursion marks as reference.

6.

COMPLETION AND FILTERING

After all aspirations are complete, remove the MARROW-STEM™. If needed, use the provided 270 μm filter to eliminate bone debris or clots (not available in the U.S.).
